This official announcement by the Medical Council of Thailand represents a meaningful step forward for Thai Ophthalmology.

The formal recognition of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery as a subspecialty did not happen overnight. It is the result of years of shared effort, thoughtful dialogue, and unwavering commitment from many colleagues who believed in the importance of establishing clear professional standards—so that Thai patients may receive the highest quality of care from appropriately trained subspecialists.

I am deeply honored to have been part of this journey, and to have witnessed this achievement come to fruition during my second term as President of the Thai Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ThaiSOPRS). More than a position, it was a privilege to work alongside dedicated mentors, colleagues, and the next generation of ophthalmologists who continue to move our field forward.

My sincere gratitude goes to the Medical Council of Thailand for recognizing the value of this subspecialty and for supporting a structured system of training and certification that aligns with international standards and, most importantly, serves the best interests of our patients.

As we step into the New Year 2026, this milestone is not only a professional achievement, but also a quiet reminder that meaningful progress is built through collaboration, trust, and perseverance—one step at a time.
